Coffee, Culture, and Creativity: Meet Dane and Layne

At Negus Coffee, every cup tells a story — of quality, culture, and connection. Today, we’re proud to introduce Dane, our founder, and Layne Tadesse, our cultural ambassador and musician.
Dane’s vision for Negus Coffee goes far beyond business. The company’s name, Negus, meaning “king” or “emperor” in Ge’ez, is a tribute to coffee’s Ethiopian origins. He believes that single-origin specialty coffee is like a history book in a cup — each bean telling the story of its region, its people, and the traditions behind it. With signature brands like Gaspar Yanga and Vicente Guerrero, Dane honors the legacy of coffee while building connections that transcend borders.
Layne Tadesse’s journey is one of resilience and passion. As the son of an Eritrean immigrant, he grew up amidst war and refugee life, yet his love for music and his homeland never wavered. Versatile, multi-talented, and dynamic, Layne captivates audiences with electrifying performances from his signature acapella intros to the final note. Now, as part of the Negus Coffee family, Layne brings rhythm, culture, and creative energy, reminding us that coffee is not just a beverage — it’s an experience, a connection, a celebration.
Together, Dane and Layne embody the spirit of Negus Coffee: heritage, authenticity, and the celebration of culture in every cup.
